Booking a consultation can feel like a bigger step than deciding you want to lose weight. You may have tried before, be unsure whether medication is right for you, or simply want someone to help you make sense of the options.
You do not need to arrive with the treatment decision already made. At The Weight Clinic, the first consultation is a medical assessment with Dr. Lorenzo Gordon. Its purpose is to understand your health, your weight history and your goals, then discuss the options appropriate for you. Dr. Gordon reviews your medical and weight history, current medicines, previous weight-loss treatments, lifestyle and wellbeing, goals and relevant safety considerations.
Start with your health history, not a preferred prescription
Before your appointment, you will complete a confidential health questionnaire. The clinic uses it to gather information about your health, weight history, medications, previous treatments, lifestyle and goals.
Give yourself time to answer accurately. If you cannot remember the name of a medicine or a previous treatment, check your records rather than guess. Note what you have tried, what happened and what made it difficult to continue. Your experience is useful information, even when an earlier approach did not produce the result you wanted.
The questionnaire prepares the ground for the consultation. It does not determine your treatment. See the clinic’s published assessment process.
Talk about what you want to change
A number on the scale may be part of your goal, but it may not explain why you are seeking help now. Perhaps you want to move more comfortably, rebuild a routine or understand whether weight is affecting your health. You may also have concerns about appetite, side effects, cost or what happens after an initial period of treatment.
Bring those questions into the conversation. You do not need to turn them into a polished account. An honest description of your everyday life is more useful than the answer you think a doctor expects.
The clinic’s consultation information sets out this scope.
Understand the options, including when medication is not appropriate
Booking a consultation does not guarantee a prescription. Treatment decisions follow an individual medical assessment.
If treatment is recommended, the discussion should leave you clear about the proposed plan, its monitoring requirements and its costs before treatment begins. Medicines can have side effects and may not be suitable for everyone. Ask about the expected benefits, material risks and precautions relevant to the option being discussed.
It is equally reasonable to ask what happens if medication is not appropriate. The value of the appointment is the assessment and the resulting advice, rather than a commitment to a particular medicine. The clinic addresses suitability and prescribing in its frequently asked questions.
Take your own questions with you
A short written list can help you cover what matters to you. Useful questions include:
- What are you considering when deciding which options are appropriate for me?
- What are the expected benefits, risks and alternatives?
- What should I do if medication is not suitable?
- What monitoring would my plan require?
- What would treatment cost, and what does that cost include?
- How would we assess progress beyond a single weight reading?
- What would maintaining progress involve?
These questions are a starting point for the conversation. Your own medical circumstances may raise others.

Look beyond the first stage
The Weight Clinic describes its journey as Book, Assess, Treat and Sustain. Maintenance planning belongs in that conversation from the beginning. Ask how nutrition, movement, medical monitoring and longer-term decisions would fit together in your circumstances.
You should also understand what the next step is after the consultation. If something remains unclear, ask for an explanation before deciding whether to proceed. You do not have to make sense of unfamiliar treatment language on your own.
Before you book
Read the current consultation details and fee on the booking page. Your appointment location and details will be confirmed when you book.
The first useful step is not choosing a medicine from a list. It is giving the doctor a clear picture of the person considering treatment.
Frequently asked questions
Does the questionnaire decide my treatment?
No. It supplies information for the medical assessment. Dr. Gordon makes treatment recommendations following that assessment.
Will I receive medication at my first consultation?
A prescription is not guaranteed. Whether medication is appropriate depends on your individual assessment.
What if I have tried to lose weight before?
Include those attempts in your history. The treatments you tried, their effects and the difficulties you experienced help explain what you need from the next conversation.
Where will the consultation take place?
Your appointment details and location will be confirmed when you book. Check the current booking information rather than assume a location.
